When a person is involved in an automobile accident in New York, there are certain paperwork requirements. For example, if there was an injury or property damage over $1,000, within 10 days of the accident, the driver must fill out a form for the Department of Motor Vehicles called an MV-104 form. In addition, the “no-fault” application must be filled out 30 days from the date of the accident. These have nothing to do with starting a lawsuit, but they are important deadlines that must be followed. That is why it is important in New York to hire an attorney early on who can tell you about these deadlines in addition to the statute of limitations for civil action.
